What kind of a job seeker are you? There are several different types of job seekers. There are job seekers who did not care what they do as long as they got paid, seekers who wait for the job to find them, and seekers who have a targeted career in mind. You know what? The people who know what they want will get a job faster then anyone else.

So why is that? The reason is they were ready, focused and prepared. They knew what they wanted and how to get what they wanted. So do you know what you want? Do you know how to get it? Here are 5 steps to taking control of your career:

  1. Do a skills and interests inventory of yourself and make a list or use an Internet questionnaire.
  2. Narrow down a good career fit for you by researching careers that are available and compare them to your skills and interests.
  3. Do some research into those career fields the list of narrowed choices. Research the job growth capabilities, the salary and risks. Even make a few phone calls to people that are already in that field and ask for their insight.
  4. Target your career choice to one field and find out how to get into that perfect dream job by searching job listings to see what the requirements are.
  5. Do what it takes to prepare yourself for your new career. Go back to school, prepare a resume, get an interview or take an entry level position.
